Yesterday we returned from our first visa run/family vacation since our move to Mexico.
What’s a visa run you ask? When you enter a foreign country you are using a tourist visa, which gives you legal permission to be there. You’re only visiting so there is a time limit on your stay and in Mexico it’s 180 days (many places it’s less.) To stay longer you need Continue reading
I posted a picture of Rory with her new bike a few weeks ago, and my friend Erin responded, “Where’s her new helmet?” I didn’t have a good answer-they do have a few in the stores, but we just hadn’t felt the need to buy them even though we all had them back in Iowa. It got me thinking about how differently we live here-like we’ve gone back in time. Continue reading
So when we moved to Cozumel I was under the impression that there were only crocodiles way down south in Punta Sur, the eco-park on the south end of the island. It seems that I was wrong. Continue reading
Today marks 3 months since we arrived in Mexico. It’s gone by fast, and although we’re enjoying our life here it seems like we’ve hardly done anything we planned to do yet. Time is flying. Continue reading
My family is a dermatologist’s nightmare. If we ever went to a dermatologist. When Jason and I met he said I was the only girl he knew who washed her face with bar soap, and I didn’t start using moisturizer until I noticed visible wrinkles in the dry skin around my eyes. I have wanted to volunteer to work with turtles for as long as I can remember, nesting, rescue, hatchlings I don’t really care as long as there are turtles. Last year when I was in Mexico by myself I almost made it but my ride fell through. I was so disappointed I decided to wait until we moved and the kids could do it with me. That day finally came yesterday. Continue reading
It’s back-to-school time! So does that mean I have to start actively Worldschooling on the same schedule? Do we even still want to Worldschool? I’m having a moment of doubt in the face of all the back-to-school shopping and hysteria popping up in my daily feed. Continue reading
A week into living in Cozumel and we’re already taking trips to the mainland! We spent the weekend in Tulum visiting our friends Will and Cate of The Life Nomadic before they move to Mexico City.
All we own for transportation right now is feet, so how did we get to Tulum from Cozumel? Continue reading
We made it to Mexico. Unfortunately, the internet at our house died the day before we arrived, so forgive my silence dear reader as we have had some kinks to work out (aren’t there always?) Hope you weren’t worried.
Moving to a tropical island sounds lovely, but the reality of living here Continue reading
It’s the day before we head to Mexico to spend the next year living there.
It’s getting late but we’re re-packing again and really hating airline weight limits. Try to pack your entire life into the luggage allotment of one checked and one carry on piece and suddenly you realize Continue reading
