Monday morning less than 24 hours after we bought our Blazer it decided to stop working. We got up at dawn and got the kids ready for school, dragging a little as we haven’t adjusted to the new schedule yet. When we went out we were already running a little late, and then the truck refused to start. It just kept turning over without catching. Rrrr-Rrrrr-Rrrr-Rrrrr. School is the one thing we really need a car for and on the first day it doesn’t work, but luckily getting up at dawn makes me so groggy that I couldn’t even cry over it. Continue reading
We tried life without a car, and all our reasons for doing it were sound. We’d save money, we’d get in better shape, it’s better for the environment, and if all else fails there’s always public transportation and taxis. So why didn’t it work? Continue reading
The night before the girls’ first day of school I was ironing white shirts and pleated skirts and wondering how my life had gotten more complicated instead of less with this move to Mexico. I haven’t ironed anything in at least 15 years. We had planned to homeschool/worldschool, but the girls really wanted to attend school here and what they want is important so we listened. A week into living in Cozumel and we’re already taking trips to the mainland! We spent the weekend in Tulum visiting our friends Will and Cate of The Life Nomadic before they move to Mexico City.
All we own for transportation right now is feet, so how did we get to Tulum from Cozumel? Continue reading
Hola friends! It’s been a week since we arrived in Mexico, and we’re starting to settle in. The food here is excellent, but we can’t dine out every night so I started cooking meals the last few days. Continue reading
We made it to Mexico. Unfortunately, the internet at our house died the day before we arrived, so forgive my silence dear reader as we have had some kinks to work out (aren’t there always?) Hope you weren’t worried.
Moving to a tropical island sounds lovely, but the reality of living here Continue reading
