Why Pre-BEX Tours are Important

TBEX

I recently attended TBEX North America in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. For those who have not been to a TBEX travel blogger conference, a pre-BEX tour is a free tour that is offered to attendees before the actual conference begins. They vary by location as the conference is in a different place each year and promote area attractions to the visiting bloggers. The value of these tours sometimes gets overlooked but they are invaluable for connecting to other bloggers and as well as the businesses that offer them.

Embracing Dia de los Muertos

Cozumel Mexico family travel

The girls and I have read about Dia de los Muertos and now that we are in Mexico it was something I have really looked forward to taking part in. It is not “Mexican Halloween” but has a rich history of its own in Mexican culture. Continue reading

My First Trip Back to the U.S. from Mexico

So I just got back from my first visit to the United States since our family moved to Mexico. Are you curious how I felt? Did I want to stay? Where did I feel the urge to go when it was time to go home? Here are the answers. Continue reading

Kids and Crocodiles

cozumel

So when we moved to Cozumel I was under the impression that there were only crocodiles way down south in Punta Sur, the eco-park on the south end of the island. It seems that I was wrong. Continue reading

Wherever You Go, There You Are – 3 Months In Mexico

Today marks 3 months since we arrived in Mexico. It’s gone by fast, and although we’re enjoying our life here it seems like we’ve hardly done anything we planned to do yet. Time is flying. Continue reading

A Harsh Lesson From the Sun

My family is a dermatologist’s nightmare. If we ever went to a dermatologist. When Jason and I met he said I was the only girl he knew who washed her face with bar soap, and I didn’t start using moisturizer until I noticed visible wrinkles in the dry skin around my eyes. I think I was 32-what can I say, I’m a minimalist. Continue reading

Saving Sea Turtles At Last

I have wanted to volunteer to work with turtles for as long as I can remember, nesting, rescue, hatchlings I don’t really care as long as there are turtles. Last year when I was in Mexico by myself I almost made it but my ride fell through. I was so disappointed I decided to wait until we moved and the kids could do it with me. That day finally came yesterday. Continue reading

The Mechanic Makes House Calls

Monday morning less than 24 hours after we bought our Blazer it decided to stop working. We got up at dawn and got the kids ready for school, dragging a little as we haven’t adjusted to the new schedule yet. When we went out we were already running a little late, and then the truck refused to start. It just kept turning over without catching. Rrrr-Rrrrr-Rrrr-Rrrrr. School is the one thing we really need a car for and on the first day it doesn’t work, but luckily getting up at dawn makes me so groggy that I couldn’t even cry over it. Continue reading

We Bought A Car!

We tried life without a car, and all our reasons for doing it were sound. We’d save money, we’d get in better shape, it’s better for the environment, and if all else fails there’s always public transportation and taxis. So why didn’t it work? Continue reading

First Day of School In Mexico

Cozumel Mexico

The night before the girls’ first day of school I was ironing white shirts and pleated skirts and wondering how my life had gotten more complicated instead of less with this move to Mexico. I haven’t ironed anything in at least 15 years. We had planned to homeschool/worldschool, but the girls really wanted to attend school here and what they want is important so we listened. We had no idea what we were getting into. Continue reading
